How ENBTA handles information

This Privacy Policy explains how the East New Britain Tourism Authority collects, uses, stores and shares personal information through its tourism website. It applies to visitors, people making enquiries and tourism stakeholders who provide information to ENBTA.

Last updated: 7 September 2026

01 / About this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains how personal information is handled when you access or use this website, including its pages, tourism directories, maps, listings and contact forms (collectively, the “Website”).

“Personal information” means information that identifies you or could reasonably be connected with you. By using the Website or voluntarily giving information to ENBTA, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy.

02 / Who we are and what this Policy covers

The Website is operated by the East New Britain Tourism Authority (“ENBTA”, “we”, “us” or “our”), the provincial tourism authority for East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.

This Policy covers personal information handled through the public Website and related communications with ENBTA. It does not govern the separate privacy practices of accommodation providers, tour operators, social networks, booking platforms or other external services linked from the Website.

03 / Information you provide to us

We may collect information that you voluntarily provide when you:

  • send an enquiry, correction, complaint or feedback through a contact form;
  • communicate with ENBTA by email, telephone or another channel;
  • provide tourism listing details, photographs or supporting information;
  • request assistance or information; or
  • participate in a consultation, survey, event or similar ENBTA activity.

This information may include your name, email address, telephone number, organisation, role, location and the contents of your message. Please do not submit passwords, payment-card information, medical records or other highly sensitive information through a general contact form.

04 / Information collected automatically

When you visit the Website, our hosting, security and website systems may automatically record limited technical information. This can include your internet protocol (IP) address, browser and device type, operating system, pages requested, referring page, approximate location derived from an IP address, and the date and time of access.

This information is used to deliver pages, maintain security, diagnose problems, understand general Website use and improve performance. ENBTA does not use this technical information to identify ordinary visitors unless reasonably necessary for security, investigation or legal purposes.

05 / Cookies and similar technologies

The Website may use cookies or similar browser storage required for security, core WordPress or Divi functionality, preferences and reliable operation. A cookie is a small file or value stored by your browser.

ENBTA may introduce privacy-respecting analytics to understand general Website use. If non-essential analytics, advertising or similar tracking is introduced, this Policy and any necessary cookie notice should be updated before that technology is enabled.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although some Website functions may not work as intended.

06 / Maps, embedded content and external services

The Website uses or may display maps, map tiles, videos, social content and other resources supplied by third parties. When your browser loads that material, the external provider may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser details and the page you visited.

ENBTA’s maps may use services supplied by OpenStreetMap contributors, OpenTopoMap and Esri. Provider websites, social-media pages and booking links have their own privacy terms. Review those terms before giving personal information to an external service.

07 / How we use information

ENBTA may use information collected through the Website to:

  • respond to enquiries, feedback, correction requests and complaints;
  • provide tourism and visitor information;
  • create, verify, maintain and improve tourism listings;
  • communicate with tourism stakeholders and service providers;
  • administer, secure, maintain and improve the Website;
  • produce aggregated statistics and support tourism planning;
  • prevent or investigate misuse, fraud and security incidents; and
  • meet lawful administrative, reporting and government requirements.

ENBTA will not use personal information for an unrelated purpose without an appropriate reason, notice or permission.

08 / Why we handle personal information

We handle personal information where it is reasonably necessary to respond to your request, operate and protect the Website, perform ENBTA’s public tourism functions, maintain official records, comply with applicable law or carry out an activity to which you have agreed.

Where information is optional, you may choose not to provide it. However, ENBTA may be unable to answer an enquiry or process a request without enough information to understand and respond to it.

09 / When information may be shared

ENBTA does not sell or rent personal information. We may share relevant information:

  • within ENBTA or with authorised East New Britain Provincial Government personnel who need it for official work;
  • with a tourism provider when you ask us to refer or resolve an enquiry concerning that provider;
  • with website, hosting, email, security or technical service providers acting for ENBTA;
  • with emergency, regulatory, law-enforcement or other government authorities where lawful and reasonably necessary;
  • to protect a person, community, public asset or ENBTA’s lawful interests; or
  • where you have consented or the disclosure is otherwise required or permitted by law.

Only information reasonably relevant to the purpose should be shared.

10 / Service providers and overseas processing

ENBTA may rely on external organisations to host the Website, deliver email, maintain systems, prevent spam, provide maps or support other technical functions. Those providers may process information on ENBTA’s behalf.

Because some internet and cloud services operate outside Papua New Guinea, technical or personal information may be stored or processed in another country. ENBTA should select reputable providers and take reasonable steps to ensure that information is handled securely and only for the required service.

11 / Tourism listings and business contact information

The Website publishes business and professional information about accommodation providers, operators and other tourism stakeholders. This can include a business contact person’s name, telephone number, email address, website, social profile and service location.

ENBTA treats this as public-facing tourism information when it has been supplied or confirmed for publication or is otherwise lawfully available. A person or provider may ask ENBTA to correct, update or remove inaccurate contact information, subject to lawful recordkeeping and public-interest requirements.

12 / How long information is retained

ENBTA retains personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, Website security, tourism administration, dispute handling, accountability and applicable legal or government recordkeeping requirements.

Different records may require different retention periods. When information is no longer reasonably required, ENBTA should securely delete, anonymise or archive it in accordance with applicable requirements and practical system limitations.

13 / Security of personal information

ENBTA takes reasonable administrative and technical steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. Measures may include restricted administrative access, software updates, backups, access controls, reputable hosting and secure connections.

No website, email or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. You should take care with the information you send, keep your devices updated and contact ENBTA if you believe information submitted through the Website has been compromised.

14 / Children’s privacy

The Website provides general tourism information and is not designed to collect personal information directly from children. A child should use contact features with the involvement of a parent, guardian, teacher or responsible adult where appropriate.

If a parent or guardian believes a child has submitted personal information that should not be retained, they may contact ENBTA and request that it be reviewed or removed, subject to applicable obligations.

15 / Your choices, access and correction

You may choose not to submit optional information and may control cookies through your browser. You may also contact ENBTA to:

  • ask what personal information ENBTA holds about you;
  • request correction of information that is inaccurate or out of date;
  • withdraw permission for an optional use;
  • request deletion where the information is no longer reasonably required; or
  • raise a concern about how information has been handled.

ENBTA may need to verify your identity before responding. Some information may need to be retained or access may need to be limited where required for legal, security, official-record or third-party privacy reasons.

16 / Concerns, incidents and changes to this Policy

If you have a privacy concern or believe information may have been lost, accessed or disclosed improperly, contact ENBTA with enough detail to investigate. ENBTA should assess the matter, take reasonable containment and corrective steps, and communicate with affected people or relevant authorities where required or appropriate.

ENBTA may update this Policy when the Website, its service providers or applicable PNG requirements change. The current version and effective date will be published on this page.
